West Essex Health Sector Study
A previous study identified that there were strengths in the health and allied industries sector along the West Essex and M11 Corridor. However, plans by GlaxoSmithKline to downsize their activities in Harlow, amongst other challenges, led partners to commission this study to understand the existing shape and scale of the sector together with its future potential.
Once a definition for the sector had been agreed with the client, a comprehensive data exercise was carried out to consider local strengths and opportunities. Consultations were held with local businesses as well as stakeholders and a supply mapping exercise was conducted to understand the spread and nature of assets within the health and allied industries sector.
We prepared a detailed action plan which is being used by the LEP to help prioritise activities for intervention. Harlow District Council also used the findings to support their bid for an Enterprise Zone which was ultimately successful and which will target firms in the sector.
