Shale Gas Impacts

Shale Gas Impacts

Cuadrilla Resources (who are backed by major energy players Riverstone and AJ Lucas) needed a comprehensive socio-economic impact assessment of a potential long-term programme of shale gas extraction around Blackpool.

Our wide-ranging research involved a series of fact-finding meetings with Cuadrilla and their immediate suppliers.  We used UK input-output tables to estimate activity in subsequent tiers of the domestic supply chain. And, we also made extensive use of case study material on US shale gas fields, and other UK oil and gas locations.

Our findings were used as evidence for a major publicity campaign, led by the communications agency PPS. This highlighted the positive benefits of the scheme on local jobs and will subsequently be used to inform planning applications. We assisted in various national media briefings and meetings with local stakeholders.

An assessment of the long term economic impact of shale gas exploration and extraction in Lancashire. Impacts were modelled at the UK and local level and widely publicised.
