Wind Farms Tourism Impact

Wind Farms Tourism Impact

The relationship between onshore wind farm development and the tourism economy has been a much debated topic. In this context, Regeneris Consulting and the Tourism Company were appointed by Wales Government to assess the economic impact of current and future wind farms on tourism in Wales.

The study included a detailed review of the existing evidence from within the UK and overseas, extensive consultations with developers, the tourism industry and policy makers, and case studies of existing developments. We provided an overall assessment of the potential impact on Wales as a whole, but also identified those locations which might be most sensitive to wind farm development through a detailed analysis of their local visitor economies.

The report will inform various aspects of the Welsh Government’s policy making, including planning policy for wind energy and tourism, wider aspects of rural economic development and its future investment planning.
