Medlock Valley Evaluation

Medlock Valley Evaluation

We were appointed by NWDA and New East Manchester URC to assess the impact of their environmental interventions in the Ashton Canal corridor, Philips Park and the Medlock Valley running through the East Manchester URC area.

Some of the investments date back to the period 2001-02 in preparation for the Manchester Commonwealth Games, others were delivered between 2005 and 2008. Our assessment framework for these major green infrastructure projects covered both employment and GVA impacts and the provision of public, or non-market, goods and benefits which arise in social cost savings.

Several surveys were completed with users of the canal corridor and the Medlock Valley and residents of adjoining neighbourhoods. The report was used to shape NWDA's and Manchester City Council’s ongoing investment in East Manchester.

A wide ranging evaluation of green infrastructure investments. We quantified both direct economic benefits, and wider health and inclusion impacts.
