Unmanned Autonomous Vehicles

The North West Aerospace Alliance commissioned us to undertake far reaching future market assessment of the region’s potential role in capturing a share of the nascent market in Unmanned Aerial Vehicles. The region has scope to diversify into this new market but there are real challenges and stiff competition which we explored.

We developed a comprehensive economic model of the current and future potential scale of the market backed up with a review of the region’s competitive position and supply-chain ambitions. This market-facing assessment was further complemented with a qualitative review of the current research and knowledge strengths in the HEI base which could be used to generate added value to the core the aerospace sector.

We highlighted elements of the supply-chain (covering aerospace, ICT and optical and sensing technologies) and end-user markets where the region’s businesses could expect to capitalise. We provided recommendations on the general shape and potential achievements of the support programme to help the region adapt to the opportunities before them which was subsequently used to underpin multi-million pound bids for Regional Growth Fund and ERDF resources.
