Kent Low Carbon Economy
Kent has a growing low carbon sector, including a noted strength in offshore wind energy generation in and around Medway and the Thames Estuary.
Recognising these strengths, Kent County Council required a stronger evidence base on the current contribution of the low carbon and environmental goods and services (LCEGS) sector to the county’s economy. Regeneris was commissioned to undertake this technical exercise. We developed a bespoke model to assess of the number of people currently employed within the LCEGS sector in Kent, estimate its GVA contribution and estimate the wider contribution of the LCEGS sector to the economy (taking into account multiplier effects). We also undertook detailed analysis of areas of future opportunity within the LCEGS sector, providing forecasts of growth in employment and GVA over the next 10-20 years.
The study underpinned the development of ‘Low Carbon Kent’, Kent County Council’s prospectus for the LCEGS Sector.
