Wessex Route Economic Impact
The Thames Valley Berkshire LEP together with three local authorities wanted to understand the impact which improvements to the Reading to Waterloo Rail Corridor would have on their local area.
Rail links from Bracknell Forest and Wokingham to London have historically not been as strong as other parts of the Thames Valley Berkshire sub-region. Regeneris worked alongside JMP to consider the economic impact of a range of scenarios which sought to improve the frequency of the service as well as journey times. Our work also considered the potential impact of improved rail access to Heathrow airport from the south.
Regeneris specifically provided inputs into the economic modelling of direct, indirect and agglomeration benefits. We also considered the potential for the improvements to act as a catalyst for development around the stations and to contribute to broader economic development objectives. The study will inform a submission which the consortium intend to make to Network Rail’s Wessex Route Study.
