The relocation of parts of the BBC to the Manchester area provided a massive opportunity for the North West. The case for choice of the preferred site and the public investment in the site had to be made to central Government and the regional development agency.
Our work commenced with the assessment of four shortlisted locations and help in making the final choice. We then carried out a detailed Green Book economic appraisal of the various options for site development. The work involved an international review of media cities/quarters and a detailed assessment of the case for intervention.
The work was discussed extensively with government departments including the Treasury before a final agreement that the £30m investment was value for money. MediaCity:UK is now up and running with the BBC successfully relocated there. It is proving a magnet for the media and creative sector.
Preparation of a full economic appraisal of £30m investment in Media City, Salford.
