Black Country Smart Strategy

Black Country Smart Strategy

Each Local Enterprise Partnership should develop a Smart Specialisation plan which sets out how it intends to focus innovation and R&D investment on its competitive strengths, in particular the research in its universities, and the industrial assets in its business base.

Regeneris was engaged by the Black Country to identify a set of smart specialisation sectors. Our work involved a detailed review of local business and sector data, an investigation into the research strengths of the University of Wolverhampton and other universities in surrounding areas, and analysis of national growth sectors and the factors driving growth in these sectors.

We continued to work with organisations in the Black Country to help set up a LEP group to lead the smart specialisation work and helped plan for a new workspace facility at Wolverhampton University aimed at growing priority sectors.

Identifying priorities for research and innovation-led economic growth in the Black Country.
