Impact of TfL investment
Transport for London (TfL) manages most public transport in the capital as well as its major roads. It spends several billion pounds every year on UK suppliers in the course of the delivery of capital programmes and to support ongoing activities. Crossrail is Europe’s largest infrastructure project and in the past few years has let some of the largest value contracts in recent UK construction history. TfL and Crossrail appointed Regeneris Consulting to a three-year contract to analyse the economic impact of their spending with UK suppliers on the economy.
Using our input-output model we have assessed the employment impact of their spending for each of the UK regions and nations, including direct, indirect and induced effects and been able to show they make a major contribution to the UK economy, much of which benefits places outside the capital.
Our data has been used in annual reports and to inform specific lobbying campaigns to central government for transport investment. See here for more information.
